Day 1

It was only eight years ago. At our leaving bash, Leon suggested I might like to start writing one of these new fangled blog things. "What's that?" I asked and he proceeded to tell me all about web logs. A few days later we were in Canada.

Well I haven't forgotten Leon, it's just taken a while :)

Why today? Why not, of course. No special reason, it just so happened to be today, another rainy day here in the Pacific North Wet. Well it doesn't get to be a temperature rain forest without rain now does it.

Today we tried rainsheets and coolers on Eli, our Spanish Norman gelding, prior to his trip to Princeton to spend the winter at Marion's. Eli needs plenty of up and down hill exercise to build his back leg muscles up to help with his locking stifle troubles. We make the trip on Saturday, a day the forecaster say shall be short on snow. The road from Hope to Princeton through Manning Park is a stunning drive but I would not do it with the Startrek warp drive effect that snow provides.

After that, our friendly farrier came to give all the horses their pedicures so now they have beautiful hooves.

Other than feeding the horses and cleaning out the stalls, this was about it for the short daylight hours. Through most of the winter I work during the dark hours, one of the advantages of working from home.

Tomorrow being Thursday will see the stalls cleaned early prior to taking the dogs to the doggy swimming pool in Errington, where, being on the east coast of the island, there is likely to be evidence of this yellow orb thing in the sky that we rarely see during the winters this side of the hump. This valley tends to lock in the fog and clouds. Then of course some more work by dark.

Friday is hay arrival and trip prep day. The horses are happy about hey arrival day, or at least they would be if they saw all those bails arriving, but they'll be too busy munching the last of the last batch to notice. Well that's the plan anyway. Trip prep is mostly about making sure the truck and trailer are ready and Eli's 'suitcase' is packed. Friday will be rounded off at the Shoreside Grill for a birthday bash.  Then of course some more work by dark.

Early rise on Saturday to catch the 5.15am ferry. Should be there and back in the day, albeit a long one.    Then of course some sleep!

If nothing else, Leon, I made one post!
